Here’s to the good ol’ Christmas letter! I hope you are well and that your year was full of fun, fond memories.
Ours was fun, crazy and a big ‘ol disaster wrapped up in one! Overall 2016 was a year of massive change! This year we were able to sell two homes in Wake Forest, NC! How crazy is that?! First, our rental home. (It was a rental because the difficult economy had made it challenging to sell for several years.) In addition we sold our home we were living in. We did lots of work on both homes to fix them up to prepare them for sale. The rental took several months to sell, while our home had an offer before it officially went on the market! It was a stressful time. I am so grateful for our church small group and all those who helped us prepare our homes for sale! We sold both homes at a profit and the Lord’s timing was perfect as the market is booming around the Raleigh metro now.
We love the location and used our home over the summer to host lots of parties and cook-outs with friends and co-workers. We’ve desired to become a more hospitable family and this home has allowed that with ready-made good, clean fun.
With our move I decided to leave His Radio. I have been enjoying writing and working at True Light Shines Academy… where Micah and Lindsey attend. I am currently teaching a writing/blogging class (Check out our blog here.) In January I will be taking on more classes. I had been an on-air radio host for 19 years.
Lindsey had some significant changes this year. She got a job as a pizza delivery driver and her first car. She now takes Micah to school. She has a steady boyfriend. Lindsey will be graduating next December and Micah is now in Middle School. They are both great students.
In October Hurricane Matthew hit and it was hard on our area. It was amazing how neighbors helped one another out during a difficult time. We were without power for five days. A part of that time our neighbor Greg allowed us to use his generator off and on to keep our fridge and freezer running. One night Drew cooking chicken on the grill and we ate together with our neighbors. We used oodles of candles… then eventually went to a hotel. (Praise the Lord that Drew works in the hotel industry and they comped us rooms!!)
Overall we received 10 inches of rain. The rain uncovered some structural damage to our home, which we are still in the process of addressing. We are also are putting up a garage. Dream home… now a mud pile in the front and drywall down and flooring gone in some areas! Lots of construction going on here… and some waiting. But we still have that lake view!! This has been a faith stretcher… Times like this show your true character. My small group ladies, family and others have been very encouraging.
Well, this letter is getting long… If you’re wanting a place to get away and eat some s’mores, our fire pit is ready and marshmallows and chocolate are always in the cupboard. We are a work in progress… messy. But, you know I’m learning more and more that Jesus loves me through the mess (inside and out.)
Love ya! Merry Christmas!
Brittney, Andrew, Lindsey and Micah
